Chrome washer jets
Chrome washer jets
Advice please!
I like shiny things and I like chrome, so I fancy putting chrome washer jets on the Z3. However, whilst driving 500 miles in the past week I have not seen one car with chrome washers!
This leads me to two thoughts:
Either a) they are just out of fashion or b) they are not suitable because they rust/corrode/react to washer fluid - or some other logical reason.
I am sure many cars in the 60's and 70's had chrome washers, so why the change?
I have bought some £2.99 cheap sticky-on plastic covers off ebay (other auction sites are available). From a distance, say 100 metres, in the half-light, they don't look too bad. Close up they look like £2.99 cheap sticky-on plastic covers off ebay - so they won't be staying.
So, is it a good idea - and if so, where can I get some nice ones??
Thanks!

The best solution is indeed the Z8 ones. I don't have them but I have seen them fitted. Personally I'm not sure about them as they are much larger than the standard Z3 ones but if your into chrome they are the ones to go for.
They are not cheap (I can't remember if they are £80 each or £80 for a pair !) and they do require some modification to fit (I think the fluid pipe is designed to accept the pipe the wrong way around?) but there is a post on here somewhere about fitting them if you do a search.
If you do find a good solution then post some pics up so we can all see

Z8 Too
I became tired of the pimply black washer jets ages ago, as they were always a sod to clean after waxing.
I used BMW Z8 jets, which while they then cost £20 each look as if they were designed for the car, and they also fit perfectly.
They are not any larger than the originals, either, and come with heating as standard - hence the price.
I'm not sure if they are still available, anyway.
321 bhp asked:
any pics where did you get the washer jets from,i think i looked at this a few years ago,and they were £80 for the pair ,is it an easy fix ?

I just ordered mine from my local dealer. I'll try to take some pics this afternoon - the Z8 nozzles are quite low, whereas all the after-market ones I saw were very high.

So are the Z8 ones a straight replacement then without any modification. If so I might give them a go How does the heated part work, ie how did you wire them in? pics would be great as I'm sure when I saw them on a Z they looked a lot larger than standard ones (maybe they were not Z8 ones that I saw but they were solid metal)

Have a look at this topic, they come from a supplier in the US. They are standard Z8 parts but need a clip underneath to get a snug fit. Well worth it!

Heating
I didn't bother connecting the heaters, but it would not be difficult - there must be a connector for the nozzles somewhere under the bonnet.
You need the new tube/power loom, and there is a socket under the washer resovior to plug in to.jonttt wrote:How does the heated part work, ie how did you wire them in?
I don't recall how much it cost though, it was a long time ago. £20 maybe?
Use the Search button before posting newbie questions about hard tops and fitting kits, footwell speaker amps, water in the boot, hood maintainance and those horrific angel eyes. We get like 10 threads a week on the same subject, it's obvious that you haven't searched.
Thanks eStocks
I've done a bit of research on these now and it seams the Leatherz kit is modified for a perfect fit.
I can't see them for sale on the site anymore so have emailed them to find out.
They still have the fitting instructions though here:

mmmm I am tempted

Chrome jets
Thanks for all this information folks! Isn't this forum just wonderful?
Thanks Dazza for your suggestion. A Saxo? You are obviously very happy with yours then!?
If chrome is good enough for a Z8 then it's good enough for me. Clearly there must be no technical reason not to have them.
Sound a bit pricey, but on the other hand it is my wife's birthday soon, mmmm...........

When I bought mine I found they were supplied by Ron Styger. He has his own website and it may be worth emailing to find out.

Somthing to keep in mind, the nozzel was a standard BMW part it was only the clip that was different, so even if you can get the clip from the US, the nozzel may still be sold by BMW in the UK.

Oi, Jollyassassin, what are you doing with my motor?!
Haven't seen another the same since I got mine at easter. Glad I'm not alone on here.
Yes I think chrome will look good on the sienna red.
Thanks to Norwegian Blue for the link. I have emailed the guy to see if the Z8 jets are still available. I will post the result of my enquiry on here.

Z8 Washer Nozzles
Here are some pictures of my Z8 washer nozzles - as you will see, they are no larger than the original pimply plastic items, and are a lot easier to keep free of residue after waking.
When I first fitted them, they seemed to stare at me through the screen, but after a week or so I no longer noticed them.
Although the paintwork on the bonnet looks very 'orange peel,' it's just the reflections of the trees overhead!

Z8
No - they went in without any problems.
I have seen Z3s with after market chrome washer nozles, and they were all very high in comparison - they looked cheap and nasty, quite the opposite to mine, which were expensive and nice!

RED has the Z8 chrome washer jets and they look ace.
They're a really subtle cosmetic mod that works really well on the Z3, even if the car doesn't have much other chrome.
Mine slipped straight in without any modification, but I did get them secondhand from an ex-Z3 owner. If there is a heating element, then I didn't connect it.
I think the big ones you mention are probably not replacement units, but just stick-on covers. Typical eBay tat.

I think they look great! Especially on red or black.
Unfortunately I think the two colours I have on my Zeds are the two colours where the chrome would not look good.

Yep Halliwell Jones, Warrington but as non stock should be same price at any dealer.jollyassassin wrote:Let us know how well they fit jon, i need to get some for mine. Was it halliwell jones bmw?
The parts guy was pretty chuffed as it was the first time ever they had had a customer ask for a Z8 part
They phoned me tonight to say the washer jets are in and ready for pick up so I'll try and pick them up tomorrow but not sure I will get chance to fit this week (SWMBO just does not consider Zed related priorities when arranging BBQ/parties etc...... )

Finally remembered to order mine today
Parts guy was quite blasé about them, saying that there had been quite a run on them of late!
I wonder how many times he's said that in the last few days?
I did try explaining why he was having a run on them, but he wasn't very interested, possibly 'cos he's heard that plenty of times before too
