How late do you keep your top down............

Post by Warrior »

......before you think 'I either look flash or silly now?' :o

Couldn't help but feel like a Pimp as I cruised through town at 9pm the other night but it was so much better than squinting through the midday sun!

So what time do you button up?

I've driven after dark quite a few times with a previous drophead (MG Midget with a proper tonneau) but not had the need to do so with the Zed. Not sure I'd park it in a cinema car park with the hood down as I used to the Midge though - no protection from passing McDonald's wrappers.

Night driving with the roof is a laugh!!! You can enjoy looking at the stars, low hanging clouds - and the silence is great due to less traffic.

I've been laughed at by friends (that don't have a convertible), but actually I get to have the last laugh by driving open.

Try it - you'll love it

Ive not had mine long but if its dry the top is down day or night aslong as its dry. I have driven it in light rain at around 50mph and kept dry.
Anyone know what speed keeps you dry because a Friends RX7 vert keeps you dry at 35mph. :)

I love driving at night with the roof down. After a long night, it is often the only thing keeping me awake.

The hood stays down until the point where you can't go fast enough to keep the rain out - unless my wife is with me when she just says "go faster" if we're in the Z3 but it's "put the roof up" if we're in hers.

I've driven both of mine at night with the roof down - it's a lovely feeling. The zed has a good heater if it gets cold, and for the frog I have a good leather jacket. :D

I overheard someone say "oooh, look at that!" when I drove past them in the zed on the way back from a concert one night - 10pm and a lovely warm evening - country lanes all the way home. 8-)

I've had worse than "oooh, look at that!" when I drive with the roof down at night in the winter, I wouldn't dare put it on this forum though

Default position .... top down always :) (unless it is lashing down  ) Doesn't matter how cold or crisp it is - got a coat/hat/gloves/heater haven't you?

Our top down state is based on 365 24/7. only rain (and snow) stops play. 8-)

The feeling you get from driving after sunset, can be really exhilerating, with a freedom that can only come from open top motoring in the Zed under the stars. :bow

A wise man once said "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing," he also said "If it's raining, wear a f*cking raincoat!" Actually he can't be all that wise since he races motorbikes for a living, but i know where he's coming from. Put the top down as and when you feel the need and "dress" for the conditions. With a ragtop i reckon that means top down at any time you feel appropriate and you will only look silly if it's absolutely peeing it down. My opinion only.

when i finish work on a saturday morning at 3 am, the roof goes down and instead of using the dual carriageway, its b roads for me :D it is quite surreal driving under a tree lined lane with the roof down, listening to the exhaust and the heater on max :)

Been keeping mine in the garage with the hood down and in the tonneau, fitted new stereo tonight, and thought I would go for a blast and listen to some tunes, it was 19:15...............pulled up at the end of my road and some bint shouted "dont you think its too cold for that!"

Think she's still choking on the exhaust gases!!!!

But in all reality never to cold or late in the year, think the only constraint is a warm rear window before folding.......oh and a woolley hat :D

I drove home via B roads at midnight the other night, roof down and no light pollution for miles. The zed looks amazing with stars reflected on a dark blue bonnet :thumb:

I have put the roof down at 11.30 pm to drive home.. Stars are amazing but I found star gazing and driving a slightly scary combination :zmurf:

I drive mine with the top down, even when it's raining. Just make sure when you stop moving, there's a bridge above you, or you're in an underground car park!

As a founder member of the HCHDC*, I put the roof up when it's snowing or when it's raining so hard that going faster doesn't help. :D
