Yup!

There are several kits out there that lets you use/ control the iPod either on the iPod or the radio itself. The kit Works like a oldschool cd-shifter in the boot. I'm very pleased with my iPod kit.

Stay away from wireless kits - they're no good at all! - I've also tried Dension - and they're just as bad IMO.

Success!!!!!!

Had a look on eBay and found a Car Audio Cassette Adaptor for less than £3 quid then had a thought that there was one in a drawer somewhere so ten mins later found it!

I can now play my iPod Shuffle thru the original unit (and being a bit skint after Christmas suits me fine!)

Does anyone know of a gadget which works with the OEM single CD player?

Unless you have an aux port on the front or even rear of your head unit then I think you're stuck with the transmitter type. I have an i-trip for iPod nano which I find to be great . Some are much better than others. I also have a miniature phone type of grip holder which fastened to my centre console with double sided tape,so easily removable but the iPod is right to hand.

Thanks Tony

I've been using a transmitter type to play music off my iphone through the cars speakers on a spare FM frequency. It's ok but not brilliant.

As I said some are better than others but really you can't beat a hard sired connection.that's why I ended up changing my head unit for a Sony one. I still use an MP3 player but it wires into the front panel of the head unit and the player lives in the holder I used for my iPod. It also has USB socket, strange this is I shuffled music to the memory stick BUT the head unit UN shuffles them back to individual artists. Weird or what.

To update:

I have now successfuly used the Car Audio Cassette Adaptor thingy as follows

1. place cassette adaptor into tape player on standard hi fi unit & attach the 3.5mm lead to the iPod
2. press the "on" button on the unit (radio came on 1st)
3. press the "mode" button on the unit so it displays "tape"
4. switch on the iPod and enjoy

It did decide a couple of times to say "no tape" and spit the cassette out but tried again and it worked for me - give it a go if you have one of these super cheap alternatives - if it doesn't work you won't have broken the bank!

I've seen these adapters for sale on EBay but it seem a CD version has yet to be invented...
