plastic trims near rear jacking points

Post by pedro20001 »

Hi all, just wondering how important the little black plastic "wings" that are just behind the rear jacking point covers are; both mine are a bit ragged! is it worth replacing or should i remove and what effect do they have, cheers in advance!

They can be levered out with a flat screw driver...and fitting them is as simple...locate the large oval pin and give it a good upward slap...it clips in...
I saw some recently on eBay going for £10 each. I have 5 spares....£.35. incl postage ??

The parts are called air ducts and i guess deflect water/spray away from the rear suspension.

Part no 9 in this diagram.

part no 51718398827 left and 51718398828 right

Brian H bought some new ones I believe recently and I patched mine up with some thermoplastic I had. ( Black flower pot)

On a similar area of the car, I have just had a new hood fitted and when they tested for leaks(luckily there were none) I was advised that the rear drainage hole in the sill was blocked on one side as apparently the rear tubes drain into the sill and then out through the bottom?
Is this correct and where are the drainage holes as possibly need to clear them(or drill a hole in the sill somewhere?)
Thanks

Well remembered Brian, yep they are air ducts, held on with three fixings, one nut and two bolts IIRC.
