Shortening the gear lever is one of the best things I have dome to my car - the others being disabling the self-cacelling of the indicators, and the other the smaller RAID steering wheel, all of which are nice to play with even when the car is in its garage!

The upper portion of the gear lever is aluminium, and the lower portion is steel.

Why would you want to shorten the gear lever?

If your gear lever is not made of metal, what is it made from - perhaps resin, like the clutch pedal? In this case you would need to get hold of an older type of lever.

Ah right.

I think mine has the shorter gear lever anyway, being the M Sport version. Which is why l could not see the point in making it any shorter.

when I shortened the gear lever on my ford type 9 gear lever I just cut 35mm off the top of the lever then stuck the knot back on makes the gear change a but stiffer but the movement is shorter

buy a new gear shift head from storm-motorworks - they fit lower down the shaft and look amazing (if slightly cold in the winter)

Also, if you want quicker gear changes then delete the Clutch Delay Valve - but dont dump the clutch unless you want a new one
