Parking lights

I have just noticed that if I select left hand indicators whilst parked up, the front and rear parking light illuminate. Doing the same on the right or drivers side has no affect. Is this usual.

It is a standard German car feature.

Thanks mwpe, it was the fact it only operates on one side, and the wrong side for this country that I found puzzling.

I'm pretty sure mine operate on either side. I know they definitely operate on the driver's side.
