steering rack oil leak

Post by mickdev »

i guys, just noticed over the past 2 days a small oil leak on the floor in my garage , about the size of a ten pence piece , I have just had a crawl underneath and have noticed on the left hand side of the steering rack , as you look from the front of the car where the rubber gaitor is , a small oil leak , completely dry on the other side.
Is this something which can be repaired ? .
cheers in advance

The Z3 hydraulic steering fluid is just basic, common ATF fluid which is typically a cherry colour when new - inexpensive to buy. Leaks typically occur by rusty cooling pipes or the factory-fitted clips holding the rubber hoses in place - the rubber shrinks slightly with age and the clips loosen slightly allowing leaks - I cured one of mine by simply replacing with a screw-adjustable jubilee clip.
