Engine support beam

Post by mrscalex »

Does anyone have a photo of one of these in use on a Z3? And a recommendation for a particular model?

I know what the general idea is but it looks a bit precarious unless you find the right balance points.

I need to have the complete front subframe and suspension out from underneath.

Most engine support beams are designed to sit on the channel where the wing bolts to the inner wing but obviously the z3 doesn't have this so you will need to sit it on the strut towers and use another beam in line with the engine to support it probably supported on the front slam panel.

Maybe purchase a strong strut brace, use the end rings as the mounting and fabricate the beam to attach to the two bolts on each ring. Means it will be safely mounted and not likely to slip. Plus you'll have a strong strut brace to fit to your favorite Z3

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm also going to look at jacking it under the sump (with wood beam inbetween) with the cross brace removed.
