what obd software ?

Post by handsomejackuk »

Hi, I have a working version of Scan XL build 2532 i bought a few years ago

is there anything i can use to look at sensor graphs particulalry intereted in logging the camshaft sensor, and crankshaft sensor among other things... would be handy for diagnosis.. i can see fault codes, and reset no problem with scan XL what is a good OBD software to use with an elm327 usb that can do the above... any thoughts.. ?

You need to run INPA if you really want to see what your car is doing.

INPA should give you a view of the Camshaft sensor and what it is doing, don't think any of the other diagnostic apps will do it, my Engine Check and Dash Command systems don't show the sensor.
If you go for INPA get it with the Interface and software, going to need a decent Laptop, if you load all the software that comes with it.
The set up I have is this one

Yes. AFAIAA the underdash OBDII port only lets you access the engine module on all Z3 models.

Yes you will need the round pin adapter, they sell the whole lot as a package.

My 1999 1.9 has the round under bonnet socket and the 16 pin OBD2 socket under the steering wheel, the 16pin socket only reads some of the engine module whereas the round pin accesses all modules.

Guys if any of you are near Wolverhampton you're welcome to plug in for free. My buddy and I share a laptop with INPA. Got obd 1 and 2 connectors. Just shout!

Nice offer from Lewy if anyone is near to him, don't forget the Members with Diagnostic thread on here, worth checking if you don't have any kit or don't have the knowledge to do this sort of thing on your car could save you money rather that rely on having to use a garage to find out whats wrong. I'm in South Wales and always willing to plug my kit in.
