Poor Idling when starting car.

Post by Cheeseandbeans » Tue 05 Mar, 2019 14:03

Afternoon all. My 2.8 is hunting when I first start the car. Once it's warm it's fine. Any ideas why this happens? I have no error codes stored on the car. Thanks

Suggest you start looking for a Vacuum leak between the MAF and he throttle body. Another likely area to check is the Crank Case Ventilation system.

Look at your short term fuel trims with your scanner. If they are >8%, it confirms that you are looking for a vacuum leak.

Agree check for air leaks on all rubber connections on the inlet side of the Maf, any splits in items then change them for new. If no air leaks found try cleaning the Idle Control Valve, take it off and clean the internals with carb spray cleaner, dry and refit.

Also check the dipstick is pressed firmly down, mines a 4 pot but if left a little raised it allows air in and makes the engine hunt.
