Steering wheel

Post by billy1066 »

Hi all, before I get my 1998 single airbag steering wheel retrimmed, I'm just wondering if any slightly smaller steering wheels would fit? I heard that a z4 wheel may suit, I'm just trying to find one a bit smaller otherwise the alternative is the re trim with extra padding.
Thanks in advance for suggestions/advice

The Z4 wheel will fit, but you have to do a bit of metal work modifications to make it fit. Thinks its in a post on http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/forum ... 6-7-E36-8)

If you want the multifunction buttons to work, you need a new clock spring. Again its documents somewhere in the link above.

As for Airbags, I can't help you. Whenever I consider changing steering wheels with different airbag, I get stuck on 2 questions:
1) Will the airbag actually work in an accident?
2) How do I dispose of the old airbag?

Thanks NZ - I think I'll be going for the straight forward refurb with extra padding.
