Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun tyres

Post by bowei001 »

Being retired & in lockdown I got rather bored so I decided to work on the Z (1999 2.0). I’ve replaced all the front & rear bushes, brakes, steering components, shock absorbers and cooling system so the car should be pretty much up to original spec in handling. The tyres (225 50 16) need replacing as they are about 8 years old. When I first joined this Forum, Falkens seemed the tyre of choice for many people. I’m considering the relatively new Falken ZIEX ZE310 as they come in my size and I’m wondering if anyone has had experience of them. They seem to have a good wet weather characteristic which is useful in a British summer and are not a bad price. The car is purely a summer car and I only do about 2-3000miles a year. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a suitable summer tyre ?
Thanks,
Ian

I've tried some different tyres, and finally found the Bridgestone Potenza to be a very good sporty tyre to a decent price. Maybe not the best in heavy rain, but personally I use my Z3 in nice weather. The Bridgestone Potenza is used by Ferrari and Mercedes.
I've tried Falken (not the type you mentioned), but I find the Bridegstone better for the Z3.

Thanks LaRy,
I'll look at the availability & prices of those. It seems that they have the advantage of being runflats (at least, some do) which could be useful considering the stupidly small size of the spare wheel carrier.

I think you should avoid the runflats. Those are rather common in the Z4. After reading different Z-forums, the runflats makes the car run like a snake.

Thanks, it sounds like they are best avoided. I'll keep looking locally for the standard versions (225 50 16 are not kept in stock by many places round here, they keep wanting to supply me with 205 55 16).
