outside temp sensor and oil pressure or level light

Post by rayboy »

Hello
I have replaced the outside temp sensor and the computer now beeps and shows -40
I have read that this is a default setting,is there a reset procedure?
Also the oil light comes on on start up but soon goes out again
the oil level is fine so I am thinking it's the oil sensor in the sump.
have any of you had these issues to deal with?

Thanks for any advice

The -40 reading is a sign of an open circuit (ie broken wire) in the wiring to the sensor, or a faulty sensor. You do not say if the sensor is new or used. Try unplugging the sensor and see what the reading is, then join the wires in the sensor plug together and see what happens.

The orange oil light will operate for a short time if the oil level is a litre low - does it do so after switching off? Its operation is described in the owners handbook . . . which of course no-one ever reads! It is possible that the level sensor is faulty, or that its connector/wiring has a problem - have you looked underneath the car?
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!
