My Z3 1.9 had the dreaded high idle issue...1500rpm.
To cut a long story short and replacing various parts which looked might be causing the issue, split intake pipe and perished vacuum hoses I also cleaned out the idle air valve still no fix.
I eventually gave the car to a local independent BMW specialist to diagnose.
On connecting up his smoke generator he found that there was a leak from the idle air valve body.
This was a cheap non BMW replacement.
A new BMW valve has fixed the problem.
Moral of this tail is don't use cheap parts. Easy to say when money is tight I know.
Hope this is of help to someone.
Regards Andy.

Re: High Idle fix.
Thanks for posting, Andy. Out of interest, how much was the BMW one?

Re: High Idle fix.
I payed 62EUR for the BMW- valve, when buying it from Hubauer in Germany. + freight. You need also to buy new hoses, because you will not get it out without cutting those.
Someone in a Swedish Z3- forum informed me that it is important to buy the original valve. Another reason is that it is very tight (small space), and some of the copies are slightly bigger.
Update: Sorry, I gave the price for the Original BMW PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE, for the crank house ventilation. Admin, please delete my post!

Re: High Idle fix.
Hi independent charged me £257.50 for the valve and £6.64 for the gasket. He had got me a bit of discount as well.
I suspect the price would be nearer £300+ from a main dealer.
Hope this helps
