Timing chain cover oil leak

Post by Patty »

I've developed a oil leak from the timing chain cover. Its on the left hand side at the joint between the upper and lower covers. I've tried adding Liquid Moly Pro Line to the oil and have done approx 350 miles since adding but it still leaks. Tried tightening up the mounting bolts as the leak appears to be in the region where the rubber gaskets meet. The interesting thing is that it does not leak whilst the engine is actually running and only starts when the engine starts to cool down
Last year I had all of the gaskets on the front timing chain replaced and the head was skimmed at the same time. I visited the garage where this work was undertaken but was told that there are no guarantees with this kind of work and the BMW engines of this ere are prone to leaks.
The car is a 2002 1.9i with the E43 engine I think.
Anyone had similar issues and is there a fix outside of a strip down to replace the suspect gasket.
I have a photo of the offending location but cant see where to attach this to the post.
