Head Gasket failure
owned this car for 22 yrs +. only 2nd owners. head gasket gone but far too good to scrap. new sills, rear window, radiator, brake pipes, 4 tyres. Local garage finding parts difficult to source, incl FULL timing chain kit ( no point doing this without changing pulleys, etc, and then finding some other 25yr old issue). Any info on suppliers would help. car currently on the Isle of Wight so travelling for repairs is not possible.

I use to buy original parts from Germany, Hubauer. There you can search for parts, using the VIN-number, so you know you get the right parts. Hubauer is an official BMW dealer, and I find the prices rather good. Quick deliveries and what I can see, also delivering to the UK. I find Hubauer very good, because you are maybe looking for that little component for your car, and you can get it.
Otherwise it is plenty of companies in Germany selling the complete set. One company selling complete sets (seems to be in the UK ) https://www.euspares.co.uk/manufacturer/glaser , I think you should go for the brand GLASER

BMW still supply everything.
A Reinz gasket set is ideal. You must also replace all of the plastic coolant pipes. One on the back of the head, one on the front and the long one on the block. There is also an oil pressure 'O' seal between the head and cam cover - it seals these two so that pressurised oil can enter the camshaft spray tube in the cam cover.
There's no point in replacing an M44 timing chain. It'll outlast you.
