As title 2.0 wich is 50/50 as to if it feels right.

P0340 code so Looking at the inlet cam sensor, but also have Vanos Solenoids on order.

Could the P0340 by symptomatic of failing Vanos solenoids , or is it just failing itself.

Both task look simple apart from getting to the cam sensor Multiplug..

The fault code was up here in a thread a few months ago. My answer was:
With P0340 the crankshaft sensor is no 1 to change, not the inlet or outlet camshaft sensors. Those are no 2 to be changed.
Another thing mentioned in the Swedish Z3-forum mentioned several times, you cannot by some cheap sensors, it does only exist 3 brands that will work for sure: BMW original, Bosch or VDO-Siemens.
The vanos is pure mechanical, and for that reason, it cannot set any fault codes. Vanos has no feedback to confirm the function.

The sensor I have on the way is a Febi which somone i a thread somewhere said was good.

With the Inlet sensor being easy to get to I will see if it makes any difference. I have no idea where the crank sensor is yet.

Cheers

From a recent (expensive) experience of trying to remedy a similar issue with pattern sensor parts I have learnt one thing... When it comes to cam/crank sensors...stay clear of any aftermarket brand sensors. I replaced my crank and camshaft sensors with multiple makes and still had issues and fault codes coming up sometimes still, sometimes after a couple of days. I was at the end of my tether until a chance meeting with a retired BMW technician who said "when it comes to sensors always buy genuine BMW"

Despite siemens', lucas etc manufacturing parts for BMW there does seem to be a difference in BMW and aftermarket parts. I bit the bullet and paid for genuine BMW sensors from the dealer and it was a BINGO moment. problems and codes gone. My car runs the best it ever has.
