S54 Z3M Roadster - Value?

Post by WReyno70 »

Morning All,

I'm new on here and would very much appreciate your opinion (ball bark) on the value of my 2002 S54 M Roadster?

Im seriously thinking of selling my car to make way for another project (S54!) but I would like a realistic valuation as I see some crazy prices for low mileage examples.

The car has done 126k but is in excellent condition and runs perfectly with no sign of any mechanical issues - there are a couple of rust scabs underneath the bonnet but purely cosmetic! Im also have a new soft top fitted this week (blue to match the original) as the original one has become tatty.

I really appreciate your feedback!

Really hard to value without seeing the car, as you say the values of lower mileage cars has rocketed recently.

My estimation would be £11 - £13K

There's a black S54 on Autotrader at the moment with approx. 80K on the clock with the hardtop for £12500.00 , looks good to me, maybe all the dealers have realised that there are only so many people who have £20 K to spend on a plaything! ps more than happy to up Berties offer to £5000 :D

gorgeous!!!

I had an e46 M3 CS in the same colour, :

19" standard CSL wheels
CSL steering rack
CSL front brakes
M track mode

Loved that car!! and see that the values of CS's are rising also, should have held onto it!!!

Value depends if you are an M owner or not. :rtm:

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Hee hee... At least you admitted it. To be honest it's not the most we've seen. One dealership recently had one advertised for 49500... That's more than they cost brand new !!!

Yes the dealers seem to get fairly excited with their pricing..............I'm afraid that most are far too expensive for us now, we definitely missed the boat when it came to purchasing an M, although the 3.0 is still pretty quick for normal day to day use.

As the old saying goes, as long as you were happy with what you got for it then no point worrying what he will sell it for. However I doubt he is spending £3k just to make £2k. I would think £1-£1.5k would be a more logical investment. But you're best placed to know what he might be spending that money on and if it's feasible.

These "nice" guys just keep inflating the prices for people who would actually use the car rather than hide it away as an investment, such a shame but obviously what happens when they weren't that popular when new?

Time will tell if inflated price is acceptable for a higher miles s54 I guess.

I saw a phoenix yellow s54 roady make early 20s last year at auction with 60k up and the sills needed rust sorting so if buyer gets it for 17 dead or less and its fully sorted then guess its not that dear.

Lots of Dealers seem to be struggling to shift their S50s at £15k plus while those privately advertised between 10 -14k seem to be gone soon as you blink. Wonder how good or bad the current crop of 15k cars are. Is it price or condition putting people off....

Lol I know of who bought it. Don't know him personally and he does not really do forums but he is a trader of sorts. He buys cars and does bring them up to scratch before selling them on. He has a Porsche which has had an interesting thread on the Porsche forum.

I must admit I thought the price was cheap for an S54 but I've not kept up to speed with pricing. In the end he must feel he has a margin in it. If you got what you wanted for it everyone's happy and he now has the risk / reward of selling it for a profit which he accepts as its what he does.

In some ways this is immaterial to me as I will never sell Sharky .
However it has made me reappraise my insurance to make sure it is adequate and I could attempt to replace him if the worst happened.
However as he is one of a kind, ( only steel grey S54 with imola black leather interior) he really is irreplaceable.

The dealer only has a "profit on paper" at the moment - he has to sell it yet and fund his bank overdraft in the meantime :D

Ive just looked at the photographs that he has posted on ebay - I dont think they are of the car i sold him last week? the number plate is certainly different along with one or 2 other minor details - he is also stating 124000 mile - it was sold with 126580 and 7 previous owners and not 6 as advertised?

Seems to be going up and up.

Really hard to say, check any possible listings on all internet sales sites.

Biggest factor is rarity although they don’t seem to be on the Collectors radar just yet.
Low mileage one owner would be extra rare and deserve a premium in my opinion.

Hi all, just checking in again to see if there's any insight on the value of a S54 with now 60k miles only one owner from new as I posted above.

I'm seeing the following currently listed on eBay at £25k-£30k with similar mileage but these are all S50 engines so what's the premium above these for the rare 1 of 79 S54? :)

Hope you're all doing well, cheers Hylts

Only the market knows what it's worth. What others are asking is no indicator of true value, so why not put it up for sale at price you are happy with and see if it sells.

I have just sold my S50 for double what I paid for it 12 very enjoyable years ago.

Good luck
