M Roadster wing mirror removal advice please

I have read and seen videos of the process involved to remove wing mirrors that are stuck solid and cannot be turned in. However these videos only applied to the Z3 wing mirrors as it comes apart in 2 pieces once the mirror glass and the 4 hex bolts have been removed. The M mirror is one piece and then the base. My 02 M roadster -phoenix yellow- has both mirrors frozen solid. I am guessing the mirror has to be removed for a start. Can anyone help with how to remove/unfreeze. Much appreciated. My apologies if I have missed this subject that has been covered elsewhere in the forum.

Hi I experienced the same problem. I used over a week squirts of WD40 between the base and the the main housing and gave it a little lift and twist after a couple of days it move a little and so carried on with the WD treatment. I was prepared for the main linkage to possibly break and so should you. If that does happen you can buy a new internal with base and even have the base matched to your vehicle colour from https://x8r.co.uk/bmw-wing-mirror.html

Patience and a bit of luck the key for a chance to free it off though but mine were turning a few years before though so maybe that why I had a success. Saying that I’ve still got to strip them to refurb the bases

Hi Aithulas

I have squirted WD-40 over a few days before and had no luck. I haven’t been doing it for a few weeks now but will start again seeing that you had success. I’m not sure how long the mirrors have not been turned in or out for but I have had the car for 18 months and have never actually tried it. Thanks again for your advice and I guess being patient is the best for now.
