Looks like my Dad's car has now been sold on by Sytner. The car is no longer on their website.

Probably although we won't know at what price of course.

And it's just possible they realised they dropped a clanger with the price and have withdrawn it to quietly dispose of it.

But I'm guessing the sort of person likely to buy the car at that price from that source is a longtime BMW customer, with a few quid in the bank and who wants a toy. Paying a few thousand over the odds is probably irrelevant compared with having a spanking car. Doesn't make them a bad person by the way - just in case they read this! It's just I fancied doing a bit of psychological profiling

I test drove a 5GT at a Sytner garage once. The depreciation is terrible on those cars by the way. I was offered something silly like £5k off a £25k car. So I think their prices might be negotiable

Can a Z3 M really be worth £57,000? I called Sytner about the £17,000 Z3 3.0 and was told it "has sold, a lot of interest and phone calls" although they wouldn't tell me what price it went for.

At the other end of the scale (and in the real world hopefully) there are a few nice looking 3.0 Z3's currently on Ebay and other car selling sites in the range £3,000-8,000.

It could have been worth 100k if someone wanted to pay that for it. It's only worth what someone is prepared to buy it for. If it's a car you want and you have the cash, why not? The salesman has been lucky and found a buyer that is prepared to pay that for the car.

Disclaimer: I dont have £500, never mind £50k to spend on a car at the minute.

Ebay is currently showing about ten Z3 3.0 for sale. All under £8,000.

They are all described as "lovely" but are not mint, or have over 100,000 miles. The money will always be there for the best examples of any older car.

The summer is entering its final phase, the car isn't sold. I don't reckon they'll get anywhere near the £17,000. I think the original owner got a fair price for a quick, quibble-free trade sale. Scottish cars seem more prone to rust because of the colder conditions and salt used on the roads - I've seen numerous examples of this. Having just worked on my own rust (which did not look as bad as this example) it needed two brand new outer sills, extensive work on the front quarter panels and one new (to me) rear wing. The rust spots on the z3 are like an iceberg.

With the rust thoroughly sorted, this would undoubtedly be a beautiful car - not sure about £17,000 though.

I wonder what happened to the buyer, as Sytner told me it was "sold, a lot of phone calls and interest"

I do think they are pushing the boat out at £17,000. It's possible to talk up prices at a main dealer's showroom but only up to a point.
Maybe they are going to have a "Sale, previously £17,000 now £13,995"
Might explain why the bodywork has not been done.

The car is still there and been through the body shop. It is being used so perhaps by one of the staff as a fair bit of brake dust on the wheels, but parked in the used car sales area? I called in today for the parts dept.

Interestingly (after all this talk of big money low mileage Z3's) there's a very nice looking 17,000 mile 2.8 at under £8,000 been sitting unsold on Ebay for weeks.

Is anybody actually paying £12,000+ for these cars? There's one with 17,000 miles at £7495 and it seems nobody has nibbled.

Is there something wrong with it? The MOT history checks out. It's only done 4,000 miles in the past ten years!

Too many cheaper ones about to choose from and if people are buying to use, then they probably don't have a budget big enough for the low mileage examples and what would be the point only to hike up the mileage etc. These examples only really appeal to collectors now and they will be bought to sit in the garage for years and years and barely get used. I don't believe there are many people around willing to spend a fortune on a Z3 to keep as a collectors car or and investment quite yet.

I have recently purchased a 2.8 almost exactly the same as the one you linked above, despite having 80,000 miles more (has a hardtop fitting kit though ) for almost £6000 less than that one. Apart from the mileage, I could throw a few thousand at mine and probably end up with a more sorted car than that one and still have a nice wad in my pocket in comparison. These cars don't like to be sat around doing hardly any miles each year as things start to pick up little problems. Probably why that one has had new brakes all round in the last year, I would be surprised if the calipers haven't seized as well.

There are several examples of low mileage zeds (various models too) that have been sitting on the market unsold for months now. I don't think they fetch the prices that some owners think they should, which is a shame really as I'm pretty certain mine would fetch 30k plus :D

What looks like a dealer operating via a mobile phone via ebay doesn't exactly fill one with confidence :D

The biggest issue with not regularly driving a car in the UK is your weather. Anything left standing will deteriorate / rust etc etc... Here in SA where the climate is largely dry one can leave cars stored for years with minimal use and without mechanical weather contamination. The cost requirements in the UK to create a "dry" environment for storage would be preclusive to an investment purchase. One would essentially need an hermetically sealed box to store the car in, and the car would need to be 100% "dry" before being sealed up.

Yes you are right, l missed that. I'm still surprised nobody's bought it with that mileage. I thought Sytner would have been on the blower to snap it up :-)

The 10-year MOT history for the car shows it had all sorts of tyre issues 10-years ago and worn ball joints - surprising for such low mileage :shrug

If you garage a car up in the UK in a reasonable garage and stick a decent dehumidifier in it then you can reduce the humidity to a level where the car won't rust.

I've done this for years with my Evo and my dad also done this in the latter years with this Z3.
