Bear in mind that the ones you have will offer some protection in a roll-over whereas the shiny ones tend to be for style/image only.

If the chrome roll bars are the same sort as your black ones and fixed in the same way they should in my opinion offer the same protection. Should you fit a roll bar, which I have they do not offer the same protection and are more for there look.
When I was looking for mine there were quite a few different one on different sites, you will have to keep looking, I got mine fron a scrap yard specialising in Zeds

The bars you mention certainly look nicer than the OE black ones. However, it is exhaust grade T304 tubing and as the bottom line of the advert states, it is for styling and not roll protection. The only shiny metal ones I have seen (that presumably offer the same protection as the standard OE ones) are the AC Schnitzer ones which are quite expensive

Personally I wouldn't put anything other than OEM in.

That said I do wonder how much protection roll bars offer in a crash. I'm 6ft and my head sticks out well above the roll bars. I guess they help protect the car from crumbling and you are meant to duck at the sight of impending doom.

Do you sit on a booster cushion or something? I'm also 6ft and although my head is over the top of the seat, it is definitely well below the roll hoops. Either that or you have really really short legs.

OEM hoops are very substantial and are very securely attached to the chassis. If you want chrome, then AC Schnitzers are the real deal, but are rather rare.

Cheers R.

My inside leg is only 31" (if that) which I guess means I have proportionately short legs for someone who is 6ft. Here's a not very flattering picture that demonstrates.

James is 5' 3" now and has very long legs so he sits much lower!

Ac Schnitzer hoops are TUV approved and where officially a dealer option.

No other are approved BUT you don't need hoops, the seat rest and windscreen frame are the rollover protection or BMW could not have sold the cars without roll hoops as they did
