New Screen replacement

Post by BBZ149 »

I have a cracked screen that Insurance will replace. As far as I know these are bonded screens? Also does anybody know if they will need to order new Gutter strips or any other parts? or are all the other parts reusable?

I was contacted buy National Windscreens to say the required Gutter strips were no longer available, but I can see they are still showing on REALOEM! They said that they might not be able to install the new screen if they are needed :head:

Hi Terry,
Paul purchased 2 a pillar trims the last year due to his going brittle
Part numbers 51312291179, 51312290749 /50 are the metal and rubber surround.
You will also need the plastic retaining brackets that are placed in the window mastic. Part no 51318177850

Items 5 and 6 are called gutter trims fit into the coloured aplillar trim that the door glass slides in.

I have a spare windscreen..

Best wishes

Ivor

Yeah, just don't drive the Z1  Partly my fault! I had a Stone chip really low down for Years, you cant really see it from inside the Car. I attached my Sat-Nav just above it :head: When I removed the Sat-Nav it was fine till the next day. The heat from driving back from Reading and the fact I unknowingly installed the Sat-Nav above it didn't help! Moral of the Story, repair any Stone chips straight away!!

New Screen was fitted on Tuesday along with complete set of new Trims. Just as well I got them to also order a complete new set of Trims as the old ones didn't survive being removed! Asked National Windscreens to also fit a genuine BMW Windscreen as thats what was currently on there! I had to send them a complete list of required parts, but they did a very good job in fitting it!! Total cost for parts without the fitting was nearly £1000

Now I just need to find time and remove all Pannels for a nice complete re-repaint :D I also need to repair cracks on both front Wings and a small crack near the Drivers Door Lock before dropping parts off to the painters, should be fun!! :rtm:

What will be your process for the crack repairs on the panels ?

I’ll probably Plastic weld and reinforce by melting some wire Mesh into the Plastic then bond a Plastic patch over the top

Hi m8, looking round 2k! if I had somewhere to prep it myself I would have saved a few £! There's a local family run paint shop near me that’s been in business for yonks! Since I’ve not worked in a Body shop for 25+ Years so I’ve lost all my contacts so have to just have go on instinct :P Also, the fact they are local I can drop all the Panels of without having to drive miles! Hopefully we have a mild October then I’ll start pulling it apart :D
