Looks very nice but...expensive!

On the flip side this looks good but...too cheap!!!

Have we seen this car before?

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds ... z1/8466616

Blue/light grey would be my first choice if I could pick any colour.

Hartge wheels look the part, it would appear the car may also have had a hardtop fitted at some stage (note holes in trim panel :geek: )

The nose cone on the Nutley car does not look like a perfect match with the bonnet. Respray?
Surprised to see the tyre sealant in the boot. Must be out of date as it looks like the German one that came with my car from new!
Very pricey.
However the blue Stuttgart car looks astonishingly cheap. As one of the rarest Z1 colours it has always commanded a premium.

That blue one is a bit fishy - €20K while the cheapest one on mobile.de is roughly €35K?

I think the Nutley car is competitively priced at £58k when benchmarked against continental pricing for similar low mileage cars which tend to be higher than the UK, presumably because there is far more awareness and demand for the Z1 in Germany. Being LHD the car could very easily find a new home on the continent or the US.

Is it fair to assume £55k would buy the car? But would you be a willing seller at the same price if the you owned a 12k mile Z1 ? What would you replace it with in the age of original, low milage 205 Gti's @ £30k and Ford Cosworths and 107 SL Mercs north of £100k?

And the photos in the advert for the blue one look to be very much like these - http://ipocars.com/vinfo/bmw/z1-1993.html

Setting is the same?

And for a car allegedly for sale in Germany there's no German emissions sticker in the windscreen.

......and then there are these 2. What's interesting about these M powered cars, does the jump in values mean we are unlikely to see anyone attempting this in future?

Sold. !

Seems Z1 prices continue to move ever upwards.

http://www.nutleysports.co.uk/showroom/ ... 991-bmw-z1

At these prices I am not sure why you would convert a standard Z1 to V8 M power unless the donor car was an accident damaged project.

That ad is now listed as having been rejected by Pistonheads. Perhaps I should go and have a look since it's less than 20 miles from home.

A top down drive in the sunshine to Bibury for lunch at the Swan would be nice ... but the nearby Z1 is now listed as sold.

https://classicmotorhub.com/sold-motor- ... motor-hub/

Keiths DB5 now has a revised price .. £585k.

I can't find the Z1 on their site this morning so I phoned them. They confirm that it has sold but that they have another Z1 coming in and will contact me on its arrival. This would also make a good stop-off place on a future Cotswold tour.

I have indeed got the Z1 out to run local errands today. Not so keen on the Swan in Bibury after mediocre tea a few Sundays ago. The Village Inn in Barnsley and several places in Northleach are good, or you can get yea at the Motor Hub.

Chris I guess it must be this one, strong money! given the usual baggy seats. Side indicators look a bit odd.

Nice No plate, wonder if it's included in the sale?

Keith,

Agree strong price. Amazed at how baggy the seats are after only 12k miles. The seats and the under bonnet photo would not lead you to believe the car was loved or well looked after imho!
Also why would anyone, even it was done before importation, fit non original side repeaters?

One thought I had about the side repeaters - given they're right by the edge of the wheel arch have they been mounted in such a way that no holes needed drilling in the wing?

It had spent much of its life on Bermuda. The intention with the side repeaters was to leave no holes. There is, however, a big crack in the usual place in the driver's side panel. It's going to live on Corfu. I suppose the number plate will be superfluous once it's there.

The side repeaters I can understand. Mine doesn't have them and I don't want to drill the bodywork which has caused a few issues at MOT time in the past.

Given the asking price and claims about service history I'm surprised it's running mismatched tyres though.

Green rather than red with interesting history.

11k miles from new, originally UK supplied, recently sold to Germany and TUEV approved in May 2019, now back in the UK for auction ... with new tyres and no pre sale estimate

My understanding was that after that they were a dealer for item. In which case ‘period’ or ‘originally supplied’ radio replaced might be more accurate ;-)

Ahh! Comment now understood.
The Z1 rear diffuser panel has two identical symmetrical openings.
The left is for the standard single exhaust and the right is for the fixed rear towing eye!
Some owners have fitted aftermarket exhaust systems with a second matching outlet after the removal of the towing eye.

I'm late to this one, as I am to most things these days, but it looks a cracking little car to me. Paint and interior in great condition. I think I might have changed the brake fluid before the photos were shot though. That looks less like Chardonnay and more like Port! The car gets my vote though :-)

One of the photos appears to show the Pirelli Zero markings .... I wonder if the car been photographed on its original tyres or are the recent new tyres referred to Pirellis ?

JET, any feedback on BMW's "approval" for Pirelli to remanufacture the 225/45-16 P700-Z ?

Either the speedo meter has been replaced with a UK version or the petrol gauge has been replace. The UK versions of the Z1 don't have the liters on the fuel gauge....

Pretty sure the reg on that green one is H396 HKJ. MOT history is OK but loads of advisories that don't tie in with "It has been fully maintained and serviced regardless of cost throughout the years with a huge file encompassing every single invoice since 1997. The condition of this car is truly remarkable given it's age and is testament to the way it has been looked after. "

I think UK prices are lower than on the continent. My guess is that the car will struggle to reach £30K.

Interesting comment on FB about that car:

"De Reyghere Emmanuel
wheeler deelers is just fake, it was my car who they bought and restored, but in the program itself, they lied a lot and did not tell the truth about the past of the car. The car could legally not drive on the road again because the chassis was completely ruined."

Make of that what you will. It does seem hard to believe that they bought a Z1 in 2014 for €16,550 that didn't have a "story" attached.

Whilst I agree that WD is a lot of fakery & story telling (take the purchase & sale prices with a huge dose of salt), that FB comment must be BS as they managed to register the car on UK plates and get it an MOT - which has been kept valid ever since.
If the chassis was ruined there's no way that car would have been registered & MOT'd.

I would like to make it clear that I have no firsthand knowledge of the ex-WD Z1 and am not making any statements or accusations of its condition...

It is entirely possible to put an insurance write-off that wasn't properly recorded back on the road with just an MOT. The UK MOT just checks a prescribed list of items; it's no-where near as through as the VOSA check required to put an insurance write-off back on the road.

I suspect it's also possible that a car that is written off in one country can be re-registered in another country without the "black mark" being transferred across. By way of example - in the UK it's an insurance company that writes the car off. Not all notify the DVLA of this. Take the V5 and the car to some other country, repair it and register it and you're away. Surely the reverse can happen as well.

Again - not making any accusation of the ex-WD car, just commenting on what's possible/plausible.

You suspect correctly.

Even if the V5C is annotated, an exported car can be reimported and become "clean".

I know of a long-defunct Caterham specialist who used to "wash" Q plate Caterhams through NI. I think he had friends in the right places and they were registered on NI reg numbers without ever leaving England. :-o
