1998 Z3 key question UK

Post by Brittas »

I only have 1 grey bodied key for my 98 Z3 UK. It does not lock the storage space behind the seats. It does not lock boot. It opens and locks central locking including boot and starts car . It has no buttons on it . Perhaps the locks have been changed? would there have been a fob type key when it was new? I could no with a spare and storage space key would be nice . Seems like it could get expensive .

Looks as if you have the valet key no 4 in this list.

1 Master key with battery-powered
lamp (switch on by pressing the BMW
symbol)
2 Master key without lamp
3 Spare key for storage in a safe place
such as your wallet. This key is not
intended for continuous use
4 Door and ignition key
The luggage compartment lid and the
storage boxes* cannot be opened
with this key – this is useful for valet
parking, for instance

£214 from stealer probably not an option. It may be my only option as there is no 'master' key to copy.

The guy I bought car off has found another key . It is probably number 3 in the list.
The spare key with no buttons.
Could this be used to copy for a new master key with buttons from locksmith?

See what it opens and decide from there.
