Is this a valid statement?
Looking at prices of 3.0 Z3's on Autotrader and one advert had this within........
'A rare 3.0 ltr car, one of less than 100 remaining on the DVLA's register. …'
Can this be substantiated?

I saw that too and must admit it did surprise me. There must be more than 100 left surely?
Re: Is this a valid statement?
There is a website https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/bmw_z3#!engine which gives figures but accuracy is questionable in some categories. It seems to have been updated to Q1 2019.

Jono reffered to how many are left in the UK…
I'm surprised, in "small" Sweden, in year 2013 we had 3091 Z3's, and 241 of those are 3.0 liters.

Take it with a pinch of salt, very inaccurate.

A lot of vendors try to make out that their car is something special - I have seen people claiming that their facelifted car has superior aerodynamics than the older type! As soon as you see the word 'Rare' you know that someone is trying to 'talk up' the value of their car.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!
Re: Is this a valid statement?
Any way of finding out how many 3.0 litre Z3 were originally sold and registered in the UK?

Re: Is this a valid statement?
In the case of cars made by mass-market companies such as BMW 'rare' means that they could not sell many! It does not make them better cars than those which people would actually buy - quite the opposite. Another reason for rarety is that they were rust boxes - look at the 6 and 3 series BMW from the 'eighties for example. Look at the Triumph Stag as another example of a rust box, with a rotten engine, which did not fit into the market either.
The media also have a lot to answer for, in that their first priority is to their advertisers - those who buy their magazines or watch their silly TV programmes are well down the list. Look at the hysterical praise lavished by 'Car' magazine during the 'seventies and 'eighties on short-lived rubbish such as the Renault 16, Lancia Beta, Alfasud etc etc.
The idea of telling the truth, rather than satisfying their advertisers, passing off their mistakes, gut feelings, and predjudices would be unknown to them!
